The California State Guard (CSG) is authorized as a state defense force under the provisions of the Title 32, United States Code, Section 109(c) and the California State Military Reserve Act (codified in the California Military and Veterans Code).

The California State Guard has legal standing as part of California’s Active Militia, proudly represented by three components: Army, Air, and Maritime.
OVER 50 ACTIVE UNITS
From coastal regions, to those inland, CSG operates in everything from Maritime Coastal Command, Operations, Military Policing, Strategic Plans, Finance and Resource Management, and everything in between.
The California State Guard is a volunteer force that protects California and its citizens from natural and man-made disasters, including wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and pandemics. It was formed to provide California with a trained and organized force in the event of a state security or state emergency. The California State Guard volunteers train and prepare for these emergencies.
